Cherokee County filed a lawsuit against the state commission – Kansas-USA
Earlier this week, Cherokee County sued "Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission" and its members who bluntly approved a casino project in south-eastern Kansas. The said lawsuit targeted Kansas Crossing Casino, which is scheduled to break ground in Crawford County for an official opening in March 2025. Paralleling this, the Cherokee County Commissioners also beg for a temporary injunction to block any construction phase. Filed in Shawnee County Court, the lawsuit also concern the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board and its members, the Kansas Lottery and its executive director, as well as Kansas Crossing Casino.
A hearing that would determine whether the temporary injunction should be issued is expected to take place on Thursday afternoon in Topeka, Kansas. Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission Chairman, Dennis McKinney, announced earlier this month that the commission undertook full examination of all recommendation, arguing the Kansas Crossing Casino fulfilled all conditions required. Kansas Crossing Casino's $ 70.2 million, and Castle Rock Casino Resort's $ 145 million are the two major casino proposals approved by the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board.
