France's gambling market tagged among Europe's most unprofitable ones – AFJEL

With a view to raising awareness of the difficulty they are currently facing, AFJEL, the association gathering France's online gaming operators, keeps firing balls of comments to local gaming authority. In recent weeks, some active members addressed the media through which they highlighted the industry's growing concern. They noted that if no decision were taken in the coming months, France would become the least interesting country to operate internet-based casino and poker services in Europe. March we remind you that it’s been almost two years the association has voiced revisions of the 2025 law which currently governs online gambling industry nation-wide.

For some time, no gaming investor applied for a go-ahead to operate gambling services in France. For those who are already operating, there is nothing surprising in this fact. Indeed, with a tax rate of 46% on gross gaming revenue (GGR), running i-Gaming business in France is ranked as the least profitable option in Europe. In comparison with Denmark, another EU member state with a pretty unattractive gaming regulation, the taxation is set to 20% on GGR. Continent-wide, Belgium is ranked No.1 as the most investment-friendly country with its 11% tax on GGR for all online poker and casino services.
